WATERMELON BASIL SLUSHIE

Updated: Sep 6

Back talking about this incredible healer again today.

If you haven't read this post before, here is what I had to say about it years ago...

{{It's summer, it's hot.

I have the perfect energy booster/fluid replenisher of your life.

When I was a young girl, I LIVED for popsicles. Loved everything about them. I could eat half a box in a day. It was much later in life that I realized why my body wanted so many of them. They were constantly dehydrating me from the unnatural sugars packed within them.

Fast-forward many years later and I developed POTS. A neurological condition that caused me many issues ranging from an extremely high resting heart rate to the inability to urinate at times. (For more on my issues with that, click HERE.)

Then I discovered the healing benefits of melons.

& came up with this recipe.

I have made this as my afternoon snack for nearly a month now and it leaves me feeling so good.

Also a great post-workout treat; it will keep the sore muscles away.}}

Today, I still feel the same way. It is the ultimate electrolyte replenisher.

I had a bout with POTS yesterday and some watermelon in my freezer so I decided it was necessary that I make this delicious drink. It was the perfect thing to bring me back to homeostasis.

Now that POTS doesn't consume my life anymore, this drink can serve other purposes too!

Adult purposes. :)

Add some coconut cream + sweetened coconut to the rim and a shot of Malibu rum for a fun beach cocktail.

Lime + tajin and a shot of tequila for a watermelon margarita.

Or you could go simple and simply add a shot of vodka or my personal favorite, gin.

  2. Once the watermelon is frozen add it to a blender with the basil, lime and water.

  3. Blend until your desired slushy consistency is obtained.

NOTES

  • If you want to make this even more electrolyte balancing add 1/4 teaspoon sea salt.

  • To turn it into a fun cocktail : rim a glass with coconut cream + sweetened coconut and add one shot of Malibu rum, add lime + tajin and a shot of tequila for a margarita, or simply add a shot of gin or vodka.

SOME COOL MELON FACTS

  • Eating melon = similar to IV saline nutrient therapy

  • Melons bind to poisons within our body and flush them out.

  • Melon has a high electrolyte content which protects our nervous system from stress related activity. (Hi POTS & Adrenal Fatigue friends! Eat your melon! It is the natural Gatorade!)

  • Melon is a natural blood thinner.

  • Melon is the closest liquid, content wise to our blood making it the most hydrating food you can consume.

  • Melon is high in silica which helps restore ligaments, joints, and connective tissues. (Hello EDS friends! Eat melon!)

  • Melon is one of the most powerful glucose balancers.
