JANURARY & FEBRUARY 2022 BOOK REVIEWS

Books.

I love them.

A lot.

I figured it was smart to share what I read in this space since peeps are always asking me for recommedaitons.

Now I will be able to lead them to these reviews!

Take a seat and read about what's been filling my brain.

Don't worry, I will never share spoilers!

Everything will be rated out of 5 stars and go like this :

⭐️ : could not finish

⭐️⭐️ : finished but would not recommend

⭐️⭐️⭐️ : appreciated the writing but the content of the book was underwhelming

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ : a wonderful book but I was left wanting more/something was missing, would recommend

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ : my whole soul felt this and I have to share it with the world; would read again

1. THE VANISHING HALF BY BRIT BENNETT

⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book was just okay. Not bad by any means. But I was looking for more. I feel like it ended abruptly and I didn’t really know many of the characters well when I finished. Was a quick, easy read but I think I got sucked in waiting for it to give me more.

2. SHELTER IN PLACE BY NORA ROBERTS

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My grandma sent my mom this book with a note (“really good” - she’s only done that a handful of times in her life). Mom brought it to Mexico for me to dig into. Phenomenal. I just feel like every time I finish a Nora Roberts book I know the characters so well. She does the best job at making them feel like they live right down the street and you know all their shenanigans. Full of love, tragedy and heartache she has weaved the most perfect storyline with this one. Will read again.

3. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME BY BRENE BROWN

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I am a major fan of Brene Browns work. There is one problem. If people don’t read them and practice what she researches we will always stay stuck. Life = connection. Something we are missing. I highly encourage you to pick up this book and read it. Then start practicing what she speaks of : being authentic, having empathy and standing up for those who are being belittled.

4. THE SEVEN HUSBANDS OF EVELYN HUGO BY TAYLOR JENKINS REID

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book was unlike any I’ve read before, I LOVED the way it was set up. A very quick read; couldn’t put it down. The rawness of what we do for the people we love was the center stone of this book and damn did it make an impact. Will read again!

5. THIS TENDER LAND

⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was so excited to read this book because the cover said, “if you liked Where the Crawdads Sing” (which was a favorite of mine - 5 stars), you’ll love This Tender Land.

I don’t know if my expectations were se too high because of that, but this book just wasn’t for me. I love historical fiction but this book felt slow. I wasn’t all the way in. Wanted to finish it to get to my next book. However, William is an excellent story teller and really makes you feel like you are in the story. My original rating fo this book was two stars, but then the section “Ithaca” happened and it tugged at my heart strings.

6. THINGS I SHOULD HAVE SAID BY JAMIE LYNN SPEARS

⭐️⭐️

Oh man. I’m not quite sure how I feel about this book. I’m glad Jamie Lynn has the opportunity to share her story and her life, but it definitely felt like ill timing to bring it out (especially with the title) at the time she did. We all have our own truths and this book crushed my soul for all the child stars out there. Especially those who go home to unstable homes. It didn’t speak much about actual experiences she encountered (which let’s be real, that’s why I picked up the book), just how she has found her faith, accepted her mistakes and moved on from them. The whole book she speaks very highly of her sister until her “my testament" chapter. & even then she is docile. Just expressing that enough is enough. & that she has found peace in her life. Parts of the book definitely made it feel like she was using this as the launching pad for her new career. A quick read, just not the best writer.

7. VERITY BY COLLEEN HOOVER

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What in the actual fuck did I just read. Holy shit balls. This was an excellent book. & there were many times I wanted to throw it right though my window. (How do people even come up with such horrible thoughts for books?) Mind blowing. It’s crazy how Colleen can separate her wolds like this. I can’t even fathom. & it makes me question how many humans in the world have minds that actually work like hers. It’s fascinating and terrifying. Also, I want to have sex with Jeremey. If this book hadn’t pissed me off so many times it would have been finished in a day. It was a hard balance between how can I read this and I HAVE TO KNOW MORE. Only getting a 4 star review because the ending wasn’t my favorite. Wanted more from the last two chapters. The rest was divine.
